Easy Apple Crumble

One thing that always reminds me of Winter time is Apple Crumble. Once October hits everyone goes crazy making crumble and pies!

While I admit I’m useless with pastry so can’t do the tart, I think pretty much anyone can manage a crumble – they are so easy! And the best part of this one is the cinnamon added for the warm and Christmassy feel – love it! I think you can use whatever apples you want for crumble, not necessarily cooking apples… I used Granny Smiths on this occassion.

Ingredients List
1kg apples / about 6 large ones
55g caster sugar
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
60ml water

75g self raising flour
35g plain flour
110g brown sugar
100g butter chopped into cubes
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / 160 for fan oven. Grease your baking dish.

2. Peel and core the apples then chop into chunks. In a pot, combine the apples, sugar cinnamon and water and cook on a low heat, covered, for about 10 mins. Drain the liquid off and discard then set the pot aside.

3. To make the crumble, throw your butter into a mixing bowl and sieve in the flour and throw the sugar and cinnamon on top. Using your fingertips, rub the flour & sugar mixture into the butter until it looks like breadcrumbs.

4. Put the apples into your greased dish and sprinkle the crumble over the top. Bake for about 25 – 30 mins.

Done & dusted!! 
