I know right, a vegetarian reviewing a seafood restaurant?! I realise that sometimes you guys may miss my rare steak or giant burger pics but usually my dining companions are still ordering the meaty faves so you can still have a peek at what I’m opting out of 🙂 And in this case, there was a group of us so we tried quite a few options on the menu so you can see the glory of all the fish that Catch 22 has to offer.
Situated just off Grafton Street on South Anne Street, Catch 22 has been open knocking on a year now and I’ve only ever heard good feedback on it. Myself and my yogi pals were looking for somewhere to meet for our regular catch up and handstand talk so after a quick check on the website that there was something I could eat, there was an all round agreement on this seafood spot.
It’s a small enough space but the interior is pretty cool. Pared back furniture and a nautical theme run through it.
The menu was always going to be focused on the fish, and there is so much of it to choose from. Tuna, Mackeral, Hake, Cod, Scampi, Prawns, Crab, Fish Pie, Fillet of Fish Burger … and then a short but sweet “Sea Free” section offering Beef and Guinness Pie, Chicken Sandwich or Halloumi Salad – for the oddballs like me who go to a place like this and don’t want fish 🙂
After placing our order and beginning our catch up over a glass of wine, they kindly gave us a free little pre-starter portion of whitebait. I’ve had whitebait only once before and they were super tasty… I was reliably informed that these didn’t disappoint either!
We didn’t bother with starter & mains as we all had a bit of a sugar craving so went for mains and dessert instead. We sampled a good selection of the menu and our food was delicious down to the sides of sweet potato and standard fries.Mains average at about €16.
As a veggie who can’t quite manage to make the shift to vegan, I am a cheese fiend but do get slightly bored of the usual offering of goat’s cheese. I was delighted that the one and only veggie option just so happened to be halloumi which I ADORE!
Toonsbridge grilled halloumi, Mixed leaves, Edamame beans, pumpkin seeds
Fillet of Fish Burger
Tuna Niçoise – The ‘Classic’ with a chargrilled tuna fillet
Crab & Cray fish Salad
Sweet potato & normal fries
The dessert menu is kept concise and while choice may not be massive, the flavour is! We were more than happy with our tarte tatin and chocolate fondant…
Chocolate Fondant with Salted Caramel Ice Cream
If you are a seafood fan then you really must try Catch 22, it’s not often that I miss meat or fish anymore but that chargrilled tuna salad really did have my mouth watering!
